Free Middle School Self Esteem Program

SHAPE America and Dove Self Esteem Project have partnered to bring a free middle school self esteem program to health and PE teachers across the US. It’s been implemented in 100 countries, but never in the US until now.

When kids aren’t body confident, they are less likely to participate in PE, raise their hand in class or engage in activities they truly enjoy. This program addresses analyzing the appearance ideals we are bombarded with, helps kids use refusal skills to resist those negative influences and create healthy body image.

As a former middle school health teacher, and one of 17 that wrote the 2006 National Health Education Standards and provided input on the HECAT for CDC, I can assure you, this is a strong program. Health and/or PE teachers may implement. There is a single-session and 5-session program. You can find both programs here:

Incentives if Implemented:

Any middle school health or PE teacher in your state may implement. If they teach either one (1 session or 5 session) by Dec 15, 2016 and contact samantha@cairnguidance.com, their name gets placed into a drawing. 9 lucky teachers will be selected to win in December, 2016.
