How to Help Schools Damaged from Hurricanes

Following Hurricane Harvey that devastated the Texas coast, several state executive directors and SHAPE America contacted me to ask how they could help. Shortly following Harvey, Hurricane Irma hit Florida, and then a few days later Hurricane Maria wiped out Puerto Rico.

Texas school officials and teachers in the hurricane affected areas are beginning to get a grip on their needs as they are creatively getting school populations relocated from schools that were totally destroyed. We now have a good ideas of needs from schools that our members work in. However, I am still attempting to contact other schools without members of TAHPERD to let them know we would like to help.

GOPHER, FlagHouse, and American Heart Association have stepped up big time for our teachers with gift cards, discounts, and donations. The gift card/e-certificate has proven to be an easy way to donate and an effective way for teachers to immediately replace ruined equipment.

Here’s how you can help! Go to any of the following websites or another of your choosing and purchase a gift card or e-certificate.

GOPHER        http://www.gophersport.com/pe/gift-card

FlagHouse      http://www.flaghouse.com/Gift-Certificates/

Have a card sent to one or all of the following. Holly, Javier, and I will make sure the gift is put in the hands of schools that need the most help.

Texas              Diana Everett            diana@tahperd.org
or mail:  7910 Cameron Road, Austin, TX  78754

Florida            Hollie Newman          shapeflorida@aol.com

Puerto Rico    Javier Perez               patriot5@yahoo.com  (Javier is the executive director of the Puerto Rico health and physical education organization)

THANK YOU!!!! Your caring and support are so greatly appreciated……
